DEVOTA. Art and the sacred in Bellano
An exhibition spread over seven places in Bellano, from its churches to the Lezzeno sanctuary.
Bellano
The Orrido di Bellano is a narrow, deep natural gorge, cut into the rock by the Pioverna torrent and the Adda glacier.
You walk it on walkways anchored to the walls that drop sheer to the water, past great potholes, clefts and caves, as far as the large waterfall upstream. The force of the torrent was harnessed as early as the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries for working iron, then by silk mills, by a nineteenth-century cotton mill and finally by a hydroelectric plant. At the entrance stands the Ca' del Diavol, a three-storey turret on a pentagonal plan, of unknown origin and already known in the early seventeenth century. It takes its name from the frescoes on the top floor, showing the devil and other mythological figures, and now houses a multimedia exhibition on the history of the place.

The gorge's route is easy but has stairs and narrow passages: the operator does not admit pushchairs or wheelchairs.
