The Sentiero del Viandante is a walking route along the lake's eastern shore, through paved mule tracks, villages and cultivated terraces.
It joins paths of different periods once used to reach the Valtellina and the Alpine passes. Some stretches were improved in the Napoleonic era; the road lost importance in the nineteenth century and was restored for walking in 1992. Between Lecco and Colico several stages connect with railway stations, allowing a walk in one direction and a train back. The Vie del Viandante route also includes the link between Colico and Sorico.
