How it works

Lake Como has bathing areas where water quality is monitored through sampling. Suitability applies to individual locations and must be checked alongside municipal restrictions.

The lake is more than 400 metres deep, and the bottom can drop away quickly near the shore. Before swimming, assess wind, waves, currents and water temperature.

  1. In Lierna, Riva Bianca is a pebble beach; in Menaggio, the lido also has swimming pools.
  2. For space and wind: the upper-lake beaches between Domaso and Gera Lario.
  3. In town, Como has two lidos, at Villa Olmo and Villa Geno: a beach, pools and somewhere to eat.
  4. Enter the water gradually and consider the temperature difference from the air.
  5. Before swimming, check whether a lifeguard service is provided and assess lake conditions, including waves and currents. Do not go far from the shore alone.
