Why go

Riva Bianca is a small beach of pale pebbles at Lierna, on the eastern shore of the lake: its name, ‘white shore', comes from the colour of the stones.

It forms a crescent beside the promontory of the Castello quarter, the old core built round the remains of a castle, with the small Romanesque church of Santi Maurizio e Lazzaro, which keeps fragments of fifteenth-century frescoes. The beach is free to use, with a small kiosk. Lierna lies on the Sentiero del Viandante, and the station, on the Lecco–Colico railway, is about ten minutes away on foot.

  • It is an hour and a quarter by train from Milan.
