Why go

San Bartolomeo is a church of medieval origin in the Castello hamlet of Abbadia Lariana, on the Sentiero del Viandante.

It stands on the hill where the Benedictine abbot had his fortified residence. Tradition dates its origins to the ninth century; by the late thirteenth century it was recorded in Goffredo da Bussero's Liber Notitiae Sanctorum. Originally Romanesque and smaller, it acquired Baroque features in the late seventeenth century. It has a single nave and a vaulted rectangular chancel. Deconsecrated in 1970, it houses displays of church furnishings, paintings, statues and Moto Guzzi memorabilia.

  • One of Abbadia's oldest churches, on the hill where the abbot lived.
  • The exhibitions, and the view of the lake from the path up to it.
