Valmadrera
Sant'Antonio Abate is Valmadrera's Neoclassical parish church, designed by Giuseppe Bovara and consecrated in 1834.
The parish moved here from San Martino in 1566. Giovanni Barboglio's bell tower, built between 1926 and 1930, is 87.5 metres high including the cross; the old seventeenth-century tower stands beside it. Four columns support the dome, painted by Luigi Sabatelli with scenes from the Apocalypse. Inside are two frescoes by Raffaele Casnedi in the chancel, Mosè Bianchi's Crucifixion and Giuseppe Bertini's Assumption. The furnishings include statues by Benedetto Cacciatori, the altar designed by Bovara and two angels by Pompeo Marchesi.
