Why go

Santi Pietro e Paolo is Garzeno's parish church in the Val Albano, with a frescoed Renaissance porch in front of the façade.

Renewed in the fifteenth and seventeenth centuries, it has a single nave with transverse arches, side chapels and a square chancel with a groin vault. The porch depicts the Doctors of the Church and Saints Peter and Paul. Giampaolo Recchi painted the chapels of Saint Anthony and the Virgin of the Rosary. In the chapel of the Virgin, Sigismondo De Magistris's frescoes from the 1520s were rediscovered during restoration in 1965. In the chancel, Giovanni Mauro della Rovere, known as the Fiammenghino, painted scenes from Peter and Paul's lives, the Coronation of the Virgin and the Doctors of the Church.

  • Sixteenth- and seventeenth-century painters from Como in a mountain church.
  • Garzeno's square, with the mountains of the Val Albano around it.
