Why go

Lecco's war memorial stands on the Lungolario Isonzo and is the work of Giannino Castiglioni, from 1926.

At its centre is a granite stela with a female figure, wings folded and face marked by grief, the Motherland, looking out over Lake Como. Round the base, on all four sides, bronze high reliefs cast in 1923 by the Fonderia Artistica Battaglia of Milan tell of soldiers leaving the fields, parting from their loved ones, leaving for war and the fallen in victory. It was dedicated to the people of Lecco who died in the First World War, and later also to those who fell in the African war and the Second World War.

  • One of Castiglioni's works on the lake, on Lecco's promenade.
  • The view from the lakefront towards the Resegone and San Martino.
