Why go

San Lorenzo is Vendrogno's parish church, outside the centre towards Inesio.

Its Romanesque bell tower formed part of the defences of the upper Valsassina.

Recorded in the late thirteenth century, the church became a parish in 1368 and was enlarged in Baroque style in the mid-eighteenth century. Above the portico is the confraternity hall, completed in 1730, with wooden choir stalls, a coffered ceiling and paintings of 1746 by Giuseppe Ambrosoni. Frescoes of the martyrdom of Saint Lawrence and of Saint Christopher survive on the façade. Inside are a tabernacle of 1547, a fourteenth-century San Lorenzo and carved wooden furnishings. The parish archive holds a two-volume antiphonary completed by Fazio de' Castoldi in 1387 and a copy of the Motetti C printed in Venice by Ottaviano Petrucci in 1504.

  • A Romanesque tower that kept watch over the Valsassina and a Baroque church with the treasures of a mountain parish.
  • Half a day in the Muggiasca with the milk museum, close by in the village.
